TEAM

FOUNDER: James E. (“Ed”) Kaune is the founder of the company, and President of the Board of Directors.   He has a distinguished career as a naval officer and private sector entrepreneur.   Ed served as the Chief Executive Officer of some of the nation’s largest private and public shipbuilding facilities and laboratories. He began his career studying fatigue and stress of metals, providing him the insight to formulate structural recycled plastic lumber.  A war veteran with the rank of Captain after attending the Naval Academy, he earned advanced degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at M.I.T. and Metallurgical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.    

CEO: Kristin Westland Kaune has primary responsibility for strategic planning, partnerships and funding. Kristin built her business career in executive positions for high-tech start-up companies in Silicon Valley, including most recently Tellme Networks (now part of Microsoft). Prior to that, she worked in the film, theater and television industry. She holds a B.A. in communications, with a focus on environmental studies.

COO: Dennis Shepard has 30 years of experience in all facets of operations including manufacturing, information technology, finance and supply chain management. He has held senior management positions at innovative companies from Talyst, to Mercata, to Onsale. He began his career at Wang Laboratories, Inc. where he worked for more than 20 years in manufacturing, technical operations, international operations, corporate information service and worldwide logistics.  He studied engineering and has attended Harvard’s Business School Executive Management Program.

DIRECTOR OF SALES: Mitch Templeton brings almost 30 years of work experience in a diverse career path including owning his own construction company that specializes in the use of sustainable products, sales/production manager in the newspaper industry, director of marketing in the public opinion arena, campaign consultant for political advisory firms, senior vice president of development and new business for the banking industry, and a White House photographer.
